What is IOTA?
IOTA is a cryptocurrency designed for the Internet of Things (IoT). The Internet of Things is a system of 'things' which have UIDs (unique identifiers) and are able to transfer data without requiring human or computer interaction. IoT is everything from SmartCars, SmartHomes, SmartFinance, and even SmartPlants. IOTA uses the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem to record and execute transactions between machines.
IOTA is an open-source distributed ledger which has a few advantages over other blockchain cryptocurrencies. It has fewer fees, is decentralised, modularised and scalable. The cryptocurrency for IOTA is called mIOTA, mIOTA enables micropayment transactions between connected devices. IOTA uses a new system of its own called the Tangle instead of Blockchain. The Tangle is a cryptographic alternative to blockchain technology; it is a network data structure which has been designed to secure transactions.
History of IOTA
The IOTA project was created in 2015 by Sergey Ivancheglo, David Sontesbo, Dominik Schiener and Serguei Popov and is managed by the IOTA foundation, in Germany.
How to buy IOTA?
With IOTA still being a new coin, most exchanges don’t yet offer it, but we think that will change in the near future. To buy IOTA you need to download Coinbase and buy Bitcoin or Ethereum (we recommend Ethereum as the transaction fees are smaller). Then register for Binance and transfer the Ethereum to Binance, now you can buy IOTA with your Ethereum.
Tangle vs Blockchain
A Blockchain and Tangle are two completely different platforms but are based on the same principles. A blockchain is basically a chain of blocks, whereas the tangle is like a web. Tangle is built on a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) which means it can achieve transactions with no fees.
