What is Cardano?

Cardano is a smart contract platform that runs the Cardano Settlement Layer (CSL) blockchain for the cryptocurrency ADA. It is a decentralized public blockchain quite similar to Ethereum, being a cryptocurrency which is open source. Cardano aims to be the digital platform which fixes some of the industry’s biggest problems.

History of Cardano

Cardano’s development started in 2015 with the aim to change the way cryptocurrencies are built. In 2016 it was sold as an ICO before officially launching as a cryptocurrency in September 2017 by Jeremy Wood and Charles Hoskinson who co-founded Ethereum. To date, Cardano stays in 5th place with around 20 billion in coin market cap.
